Fisher Price Recalls Rock’N Play Sleepers Due to Reports of Deaths

On April 12, 2019, the U.S. Consumer Products Safety Commission announced that Fisher Price, the manufacturer of the Rock ‘n Play Sleeper, issued a recall of all models of the product. The recall comes after pressure from the American Academy of Pediatrics and Consumer Reports citing 32 infant fatalities since 2009 after the infants rolled from their back to their stomach or side while unrestrained  or under other circumstances while in the sleeper. The recall affects 4.7 million products.

Current safe sleep guidelines are that infants should always sleep on their back, on a separate, flat and firm sleep surface free from soft bedding and risks of strangulation.

Infant safety advocates recommend that parents and caregivers with other inclined sleepers should also immediately stop using those products as they do not meet safe sleep guidelines.

Professionals should refer families to Fisher-Price online at www.service.mattel.com or 866-812-6518 from 9:00 a.m.-6:00 p.m. ET Monday through Friday for more further action on the recall.
